The Flesh Machine

The Flesh Machine is a recontextualisation of a scene from the 1989 Japanese cyberpunk cult film, Tetsuo: The Iron Man. The work explores the cyborg and the synergy between organic and synthetic bodies.

This audiovisual piece transforms the mechanical movements of the characters by using sounds of the human body which have been treated to sound metalised and robotic, while organic actions in the scene, such as speech, use audio from machines where vowel sounds have been extracted in order to mimic language.

This work achieved the Highly Commended Award at the Kudos Emerging Artist & Designer Award at Kudos Gallery, Paddington, in 2017.
